No doubts – What’s bus?

Ontem, a partir do exercício de pesquisa sobre siglas, surgiu a dúvida do que significaria a palavra ‘bus’ do termo USB (Universal Serial Bus).

Neste caso, bus não é ônibus – acho que isso já está na cara. Porém as duas palavras têm relação. Let’s see.

According to Webopedia, bus means “A collection of wires through which data is transmitted from one part of a computer to another. You can think of a bus as a highway on which data travels within a computer. When used in reference to personal computers, the term bus usually refers to internal bus. This is a bus that connects all the internal computer components to the CPU and main memory. There’s also an expansion bus that enables expansion boards to access the CPU and memory.”

Mas e a relação com o outro bus?

This time, in conformity with WhatisIT “… the term derives from its similarity to autobuses that stop at every town or block to drop off or take on riders”.

IT chargeback system

An IT chargeback system is a method of accounting for technology-related expenses that applies the costs of services, hardware or software to the business unit in which they are used. This system contrasts with traditional IT accounting models in which a centralized department bears all of the IT costs in an organization and those costs are treated simply as corporate overhead.

Reading of the week: What was your first game?

What was the first album you owned? A fairly inane question perhaps, but it’s one of those stock facts that all civilised human beings are expected to carry around, ready to whip out when awkward silence calls (for the record, my Mum GAVE me New Kids on the Block, Hangin’ Tough. It’s not like I liked it. Or listened to it. Much).

Being asked to recall your first videogame, however, is something that happens pretty rarely. This is probably due to the preference for discussion of music over gaming in polite company, but its actually a much more interesting question.

Games, for a variety of reasons, mean much more to most (male) children than music does – go to any playground today and I’ll wager you’ll hear 10 times as much talk about the new Call of Duty than the new Arctic Monkeys album (don’t actually go to a playground, you might get in trouble).

Continues.

Can you tell what’s this entry main idea?

Reading: What is a Pen Drive?

Filed under: reading — annyrag @ 2:59 am

Pen drives are classified as NAND style data storage devices. Equipped with a large amount of memory capacity, the pen drive is considered to be an improvement on both the older floppy drive disks and the more modern compact disks that are often used to copy data and reload the files on a different hard drive. Even a pen drive with a relatively low storage capacity tends to provide plenty of space for a number of files. The types of files that can be loaded onto a pen drive are all the common types that can be housed on any hard drive. This makes it possible for persons to copy photos, spreadsheets, word processing documents, movie clips, music tracks, and just about any other type of file.
